eCash (XEC) is a peer-to-peer electronic cash cryptocurrency, relaunched in 2021 from the Bitcoin Cash ABC project to pursue the original Bitcoin whitepaper vision of money built for everyday global payments. It keeps Bitcoin’s SHA-256 proof-of-work — so any Bitcoin or BCH ASIC can mine it — but layers Avalanche consensus on top of Nakamoto mining, giving transactions near-instant finality (no waiting on confirmations) and letting stakers help secure the chain. Balances were redenominated 1:1,000,000 (2 decimals instead of 8) to keep real-world prices human-readable as adoption grows. By protocol, every block reward is split three ways: 32% funds ongoing protocol development through the Infrastructure Funding Proposal, 10% rewards the Avalanche stakers who provide fast finality, and the remaining 58% goes to miners — and the pool distributes only that 58% miner share.
